LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon University volleyball team swept Warner Pacific College, 3-0, Saturday night in Quinn Coliseum.
The Mountaineers' (8-4) (4-2)
Emily Sampson finished with a match-high 20 assists and helped EOU remain in the top-four in the Cascade Collegiate Conference standings.
Warner Pacific took its only lead of the night when it took a 1-0 lead after an Emily Damschen kill. The match featured six ties and that one lead change.
After trailing 1-0 in the first set, Eastern responded with a 6-0 run. The lead spread to 14-5, then 18-8, and eventually the Mountaineers won Game 1, 25-13. EOU led throughout the second set, with the lead stretching as many as seven points at 15-8, but WPC would close the gap to 21-18 after a Loren Hernandez kill.
Eastern would close the second set on a 4-0 run to win, 25-18, with a service ace from
Kaitlyn Duncan. The third game was close throughout its entirety. It featured four ties as the Knights continued to battle back each time the Mountaineers took a lead.
Jessica Lea finished with 11 kills, 15 assists, and seven digs for EOU.
Irene Walters had a match-high 12 kills, and
Taylor Stewart had 10 kills. Walters also had 11 digs. Duncan had a mtach-high 17 digs.
The Knights (2-9) (0-5) were led by Damschen's eight kills, Melita Elliot's 12 assists, and Whitney Valenta's 13 digs. Hernandez finished with 10 digs.
The Mountaineers travel to The College of Idaho Friday for their next match, and Warner Pacific hosts The Evergreen State College. Both matches begin at 7 p.m. and will be video streamed on live through Penn Atlantic services.
