Eastern Finds Net Three Times in Win

ONTARIO, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon University women's soccer team won a non-counting contest game Saturday at Treasure Valley Community College, 3-1.

“I thought we played quite well, that's a rugged team,” EOU head coach Keith Scarlett said. “We are quite young and TVCC is a physical bunch. We created some good chances on the day and we finally got that little break and showed some savvy up front.

“Treasure Valley is quick and athletic they're rugged defensively but I was proud of the way we played. Pressing high up the field and trying to force the issue, that's our game. All the games are going to be like this in the Cascade Conference. I was proud of how we fought.”

The Mountaineers received their first goal from Katie Yarnell in the 21st minute, with the assist credited to Erika Whitehurst. Kami Hernandez would add an unassisted goal in the 39th minute with a 30-yard strike.

After the half, Madison Brixey scored the lone Chukars' goal in the 47 minute. Eastern's Lauren Robideau completed the scoring in the game with a netter in the 72nd minute.

EOU had 18 shots on goal compared to Treasure Valley's nine. Chantal Schefers made eight saves for the Mountaineers, and Abby Huston made 15 for TVCC.

“I thought we took a big step in the positive direction as a team today,” Eastern Oregon's Mauriana Gonzalez said. “We worked well together and hit some of the goals we've been working toward.”

The Mountaineers have a lengthy break before hosting Trinity Lutheran College on Sept. 22, for their next contest.
