Robideau Scores Two in Victory

COEUR D' ALENE, Idaho -- The Eastern Oregon University women's soccer team had a pair of second half goals from Lauren Robideau in a non-counting contest 2-0 win at North Idaho College Sunday.

“It was a tale of two halves for us,” EOU head coach Keith Scarlett said. “In the first-half we were getting a lot of opportunities, but were just going through the motions and not doing the simple things that we needed to do to get the goals. The ladies made the right adjustments in the second half, started making more efficient choices and doing those little things and the goals came."

In a game that counted for NIC, the Mountaineers put 12 shots on goal. The Eastern defense held the Cardinals to just two shots on goal in the match. Kailey Moss made both the saves for EOU.

“The game against NIC proved to our team that age and experience doesn't have a restraining influence on how the game is played and that EOU women's soccer is getting their wheels turning for a competitive 2010 season,” Eastern's Kendra Kuust said.

The Cardinals were coming off of a 4-0 rout in their season opener over Western Wyoming Community College Saturday. Sunday they were attacked by the Mountaineers and forced to make nine saves in the game. EOU had four corner kicks compared to NIC's two.

“We grew up this weekend, as individuals and as a team,” Scarlett said. “With 13 freshman and 16 total new players, combined with a new coach and a new culture; we're a young team. However, I saw us grow-up and mature before my own eyes this weekend. We're far from where we need to be, but we're not a bunch of youngsters anymore.”

It was the final warm-up for the regular season for the Mountaineers. Eastern hosts Whitman College in the season opener Saturday at 1 p.m. in La Grande. The game will feature live stats for the first time in EOU's 10-year soccer history. The first 50 fans will receive a free EOU Soccer season schedule poster.
