Mountaineer Soccer Draws With Walla Walla

WALLA WALLA, Wash. – The Eastern Oregon University women's soccer team drew even with Walla Walla Community College Saturday in a non-counting contest.

The Warriors entered the game with an overall record of 119-6-3 over the last five seasons, including exhibition games. EOU tied one of the best junior college programs in the Northwest.

“We showed a lot of determination to get out and not just compete with, but play with such a good team on the road,” Eastern head coach Keith Scarlett said. “The ladies stepped up today. We made great strides forward and showed how much we have grown in the past week.”

Walla Walla scored its goal in the 22nd minute, and the Mountaineers responded in the 31st minute. Amanda Swenson scored for EOU and Carolyn Danek made the assist.

Kailey Moss made 10 saves for Eastern and Walla Walla Community College took 13 shots on goal, with two hitting the post. EOU had 10 shots on goal and one hit the cross-bar. Eastern took four corner kicks and WWCC had three.

“I'm so proud of the way the girls worked and communicated together,” Eastern defender Sarah Milne said. “Walla Walla is an excellent team and it felt great to hang with them and make the game a competitive one. It was the type of hard fought games that you work for everyday.”

The Mountaineers return to the field Sunday at North Idaho College in Coeur d' Alene, Idaho. The game is scheduled for a 2 p.m.
