Mountaineer Volleyball Picks Up Win in Rose City

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon University volleyball team knocked off Warner Pacific College in four games on the road Friday night.

The Mountaineers (13-10) (9-8) picked up the 3-1 victory with the help of Jessica Lea's 20 kill, two error, 21 assist, and 10 dig night. Irene Walters added 13 kills and Emily Sampson recorded a career-high 32 assists. Walters added 13 digs and Sampson also had 10 digs. Kaitlyn Duncan had a match-high 22 digs.

There were five lead changes in set one, but the visiting Mountaineers pulled away late to win 25-21. Set two was another close one with 14 ties and four lead changes, but Warner Pacific prevailed 25-22 thanks to 14 kills and a match best .182 hitting percentage.

Set three was all EOU as the visitors swung for 17 kills versus just one error to win going away, 25-13. The host Knights were determined to finish the match strong and battled EOU point for point in set four until late. Strong serving from Walters pushed a 19-18 EOU lead out to 23-18 and the Knights did not recover.

Warner Pacific was led by freshman Rachel Warick with 14 kills. Sam Kolakowski added 8 kills and 15 digs. Whitney Valenta and Melita Elliot shared the setting duties with 18 and 17 assists, respectively.

Eastern remains in Portland for its final match of the regular season at Concordia University Saturday at 7 p.m. The match will have a live video stream available at EOUSports.com. Live stats are also available.
