BOX SCORE
LA GRANDE, Ore. -- The Eastern Oregon University volleyball team fell in four games in its final regular season match of the year in Quinn Coliseum to The College of Idaho.
The College of Idaho ran their win streak over Eastern Oregon to 33 matches in a row, claiming a 25-8, 25-9, 23-25, 25-16 Cascade Conference road victory inside Quinn Coliseum. The No. 13 Lady Yotes (19-4, 15-1 CCC) won their 14th match in a row, and remain one-half game ahead of Southern Oregon atop the league standings.
C of I jumped out quickly on a Mountaineers (12-10, 8-8) team that took the Yotes to five sets in Caldwell last month, scoring the first six points of the opening set. The visitors would put together a nine-point push later in the frame, including three kills from Madison Curtis to run away with the period.
Set 2 saw the Yotes use an 11-1 spurt to close out the period, as Sarah Harris recorded six kills in the frame alone. The C of I had 16 kills in the set – without a hitting error.
EOU would regroup after the second game break, erasing a 14-11 C of I lead with five quick points – thanks to kills from
Jessica Lea and
Katie Showers, along with three Coyote hitting miscues. The Yotes would get within 24-23 on a Harris kill, but the Mountaineers took the game following a
Taylor Stewart spike.
Set 4 was tight early, as the two teams combined for seven ties and two lead changes, but the Coyotes took the lead for good at 12-11 on a Ciciley Fox kill, with Fox adding three more kills in a six-point run that put the match away.
Harris led all players with 15 kills and six blocks, while Fox had 13 kills and Lauren Bourgeau added ten. Madie Machurek had 27 assists to lead the Coyote setters, with Whitney Owen leading all players with 26 digs.
Stewart had 11 kills and eight digs to lead EOU, while Lea had 15 assists and 11 digs in the loss. The Mounties struggled with their attack all night, hitting at a .008 clip – forced into 27 hitting errors.
