Soccer: The Evergreen State College Game Preview

Eastern Oregon hosts the Geoducks Saturday

The Evergreen State College has had the definition of an up and down season.

The Geoducks began their season with a pair of ties to the University of British Columbia-Okanogan, tied two other times, beat a NCAA opponent and fell to begin conference play.

The Evergreen State has played in four overtime games in its seven matches so far this season. TESC has played five of its seven matches on its home pitch. The Geoducks have scored five goals in 707 minutes of play and given up 10 goals, including five on Friday to The College of Idaho.

TESC fell Friday in Caldwell, Idaho, 5-0, after the 'Yotes scored a pair of goals in the first eight minutes of play. The College of Idaho is now at 6-1, its best start in program history.

Before yesterday's loss the lone for the Geoducks came to No. 7 Simon Fraser, 3-2, in overtime. Evergreen's lone victory Sept. 13 at home over George Fox, 1-0.

Emma Loftis leads the Geoducks in scoring after finding the back of the net twice in 2009. Sonya Daisley-Harrison has been the leader of an outstanding TESC defense. The junior goalkeepers has recorded three shutouts and had 45 saves going into Friday's match. She was named the Cascade Collegiate Conference Defensive Player of the Week last week after stopping 10 shots from NCAA Div. 3 opponent, George Fox.

Last season the Mountaineers defeated TESC in Olympia, Wash., 1-0. Tennly Paul-Bowden recorded the match's only goal scoring in the second overtime. Daisley-Harrison made 12 saves in that game. The Evergreen State College knocked off EOU in La Grande, 3-1. Paul-Bowden had Eastern's lone goal in that game as well.
