SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- The Eastern Oregon University women's and men's cross country teams had an excellent showing at the Cascade Conference Preview Meet hosted by Northwest Christian University.
The Mountaineer men placed first in the team standings after running away from the rest of the field. Eastern's men had four of the top six individual collegiate finishers led by Kody Coxen. The freshman scored second place points after finishing eighth overall.
Eastern Oregon's Terry Johnsen came in ninth place with a time of 25:54. D.J. Flores finished in 11th place and Kevin Miller came in 13th place. Forrest Lumpry and Devin White finished in the top 20 for the Mountaineers in 19th and 20th.
Concordia edged out the Eastern Oregon women scoring 48 points while the Mountaineer women had 46 team points. The Cavaliers' Alice Taylor won the race with a course record time of 17:44. She was followed closely behind by Eastern's Karlee Coffey who finished at 17:58 in second place.
EOU's Nancy Cardenas finished in fifth place with a time of 18:52. Sarah Hanchett, Kendra Stone and Telissa Baldovino rounded out the Mountaineer top 20 finishes.
The meet was a preview for the Cascade Conference Championships which will be ran on the same course at Dorris Ranch on Nov. 7.
