The Mountaineers lose the exhibition and two key players for season

ONTARIO - The Eastern Oregon University soccer team had a nightmare trip to Treasure Valley Community College Wednesday when it fell to the Chukars, 1-0.

In what was supposed to be a routine scrimmage, defenders Ashley Julian and Star Swan, both suffered broken ankles and were lost for the 2009 season. Julian's injury came just before halftime and Swan's came with just 1:47 remaining in the match.

"Those girls are so valuable to this team," EOU head coach Jessy Watson said. "They are part of the heart of this team and were a huge part of our defense. I am not sure they know how much they will be missed out there on the field. All we can do is try to pull together and and get through this as a team."

Watson said that the Mountaineers had their chances at scoring opportunities during the game but could not put the ball in the net. Eastern will try and bounce back with a game at Northwest Nazarene University on Saturday at noon Mountain Time.
