Mountaineers Lose in Extra Period

EOU men lose its first conference game

KIRKLAND, Wash. -- The Eastern Oregon University men's basketball team had its three-game win streak come to an end Saturday at Northwest University.

The Mountaineers fell in overtime 85-84 to the Eagles. Eastern led for the entire game until NU evened the score at 67 with 5:29 left in regulation. EOU led by as many as 12 twice in the game and near double digits for the middle part of the contest.

Northwest's Blake Soloman led all scorers with 27 points. The senior made 5 of his 8 three-point attempts including two big three pointers late in overtime. He finished 10 for 18 from the field. Rich Skillman added 14 points, and Greg Peters and Stedman Richardson each scored 13 points. Peters also had 13 rebounds. The Eagles shot 60 percent from the field in the second half.

Eastern Oregon led by four twice in the overtime period, and controlled the lead until Richardson made a pair of free throws with four seconds left to give the final score. EOU's Josh Cottle's last second three-pointer rattled out.

Dan Stafford led the Mountaineers with 17 points, Jordan Gregg had 16, Steve Sawyers added 14, Josh Landsverk scored 13, and Cottle chipped in 11. EOU committed only eight turnovers to the Eagles 13.

Eastern Oregon travels to the University of Idaho for an exhibition match next Saturday at 5:05 p.m. The Mountaineers will host Southern Oregon on Dec. 18 in its next home game and conference match.
