Mountaineer Men Clip Concordia On the Road

Eastern eases past Cavaliers behind incredible shooting from the floor

PORTLAND, Ore. -- The Eastern Oregon University men's basketball team handed Concordia its first home loss of the season Wednesday night, 94-73.

The Mountaineers (10-4) (4-1) shot an amazing 57 percent from the field, including 42 percent from behind the perimeter. EOU made 9 of its 21 three-point attempts. Eastern Oregon was also 15 for 19 from the free throw line.

Eastern held the Cavaliers to 73 points. CU entered the game averaging a conference high 91 points per game. The game pitted the league's best defense, Eastern's 64.1 points per game allowed, versus the conference's best offense. EOU outrebounded the Cavs, 42-27.

The Mountaineers' Jordan Gregg led all scorers with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Thomas McCarthy added 14 points, making four of his 10 three-point attempts. Cody Thurmond and Steve Sawyers finished with 16 and 10 points respectively. All ten Mountaineer players scored in the game.

Jourdan Sweeney led all scorers with 19 points to lead Concordia (10-3) (1-3). Alex Tiefenthaler added 10 points, he came into the game averaging 21.3 points per game.

Eastern led 55-25 at the half, and had its largest lead of 32 points early in the second half. The Mountaineers face No. 9 Warner Pacific in a top 25 clash Thursday in Portland. The game will be video streamed on EOUSports.com through CCC TV and Penn Atlantic. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

The Knights (11-3) (3-1) eased past The College of Idaho, 93-64, Wednesday.
