The Corban College women's soccer team has found success on the road this season winning four of its five games away from Salem.
The problem that the Warriors have had is finishing games. Corban has tied two games that would have been big victories for its program over NCAA Div. 2 opponents. Corban's five losses have come to three ranked NAIA opponents, a NCAA Div. 3 team, and Holy Names in California.
Corban sits in fourth place in the Cascade Conference standings, one spot behind the Mountaineers. The top four teams in the league advance to the conference tournament in the postseason.
The Warriors have advanced to the NAIA regional tournament in seven of the past eight seasons and have regularly received votes in the NAIA top-25 poll three of the past five years. CC has had three second-place finishes at the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) championships in the last seven years. Corban head coach Marty Ziesemer is in 14th year at the helm of the program. He has amassed a record of 152-133-14.
The Warriors have outscored the Mountaineers 5-0 in the last two meetings between the schools. EOU could not convert on its three shots on goal in 2007 in La Grande, and Corban made one of its five shots on goal. In 2008 the Warriors bombarded Eastern Oregon with eight shots on goal and made half of them. The Mountaineers took eight shots but had only one on the net and fell in Salem, 4-0.
Amanda Mendenhall leads Corban with four goals on only eight shots on goal this season. Jessica Matthews has a team-high 28 shots and 16 on goal. CC has otuscored its last two opponents, Northwest Christian and Warner Pacific, 7-0.
