Mountaineers Fall to Warner Pacific

Eastern Oregon drops game in Portland to the Knights

PORTLAND -- The Eastern Oregon University women's soccer team fell to Warner Pacific Friday, 2-1.

The Knights (2-10-3) (2-5-1) surprised the Mountaineers in chilly weather in the Rose City. WPC's Elissa Coutin scored off of a penalty kick in the 34th minute of play. Stephanie Deboer added the Knights' second goal in the 75th minute. After intercepting a clearance attempt by the Mountaineer defense, DeBoer looped an 18 yard shot into the right corner of the net.

Eastern's Jennifer Smalley put it a perfectly crossed corner kick from Lori Wilson in the 77th minute. The freshman scored her first goal of the season on her third attempt of the year. The Mountaineers shot three more times before the final horn, but failed to score.

EOU had seven corner kicks compared to the Knights one. Eastern and WPC each had six shots on goal during the match. The Mountaineers finished with 13 shots and the Knights had seven.

Eastern Oregon stays in Portland to play at No. 5 Concordia Saturday. The Cavaliers fell Friday to The College of Idaho, 2-1, in overtime. It snapped CU's 41-game conference win streak.
