FOREST GROVE, Ore. — Eastern Oregon Track and Field opened competition at the Pacific Multis on Monday, sending three athletes to compete across the decathlon and heptathlon.

On the men's side, Stephen Pittman battled through a full slate of events in the decathlon. He placed ninth in the 100 meters (11.90), added an eighth-place finish in the long jump (5.89m), and took 13th in the shot put (8.64m). Pittman cleared 1.56m in the high jump to finish 12th before recording a DNF in the 400 meters. After day one, he sits 13th overall and will return Tuesday for the 110-meter hurdles, pole vault, discus, javelin, and 1500 meters.

Eastern Oregon found its top performance of the day in the heptathlon from Lizzy Grandle, who surged into first place overall after four events. Grandle dominated the track events, winning both the 100-meter hurdles (15.29) and the 200 meters (26.10). She also claimed first in the shot put (12.19m) and added a third-place finish in the high jump (1.53m), giving her the overall lead heading into day two. She will compete in the long jump, javelin, and 800 meters on Tuesday.

Teammate Kaliyah Chronister also put together a strong opening day in the heptathlon and currently sits fourth overall. Chronister placed ninth in the 100-meter hurdles (16.55), fourth in the 200 meters (26.66), seventh in the high jump (1.50m), and seventh in the shot put (9.18m). She remains in contention heading into the final three events.

Eastern Oregon will look to build on a strong start, with competition resuming tomorrow, Tuesday March 24, to conclude the multis.
