Corvallis, Ore. – Eastern Oregon University women's lacrosse put together a stronger offensive showing Sunday afternoon but ultimately fell 23-10 to Oregon State's club team in Corvallis.
The Mountaineers struck first as newcomer
Gemma Gonzales opened the scoring early in the contest.
Willow Hand followed with a goal off an assist from
Jade McCoy to keep EOU within reach. Despite the quick start, Oregon State answered back to take control, closing out the first quarter with a 6-2 lead.
In the second quarter, Gonzales continued to lead the charge. She capitalized on two free-position opportunities and added another goal off an assist from McCoy. The Beavers maintained momentum offensively, however, and Eastern Oregon went into halftime trailing 13-5.
Coming out of the break, the Mountaineers showed grit on both ends of the field. Gonzales netted three more goals in the third quarter, while McCoy added one. EOU's defense tightened up and held Oregon State to four goals in the period, but the Mountaineers still trailed 17-9 heading into the final quarter.
In the fourth, McCoy scored one additional goal for Eastern Oregon, but Oregon State was able to pull away late to secure the 23-10 victory.
The Mountaineers will look to build on their offensive momentum as they prepare for their next match-up.
