LA GRANDE, Ore. – Eastern Oregon University Women's Lacrosse fell 15–5 to New College of Florida on Monday afternoon. A strong offensive showing from the Mighty Banyans, led by two five-goal performances, proved to be the difference.
New College of Florida set the tone early, scoring three first-quarter goals to take a 3–1 lead after the opening frame. Jade McCoy got Eastern Oregon on the board with an unassisted goal midway through the quarter.
The Banyans pulled away in the second quarter, outscoring the Mountaineers 5–1. McCoy added her second goal of the game on a free-position shot, but New College responded with a four-goal run and carried an 8–2 advantage into halftime.
Eastern Oregon showed improvement offensively in the third quarter. Gemma Gonzales scored twice in the period, helping the Mountaineers find more rhythm on attack. However, New College of Florida continued to produce offensively, adding five goals in the quarter to extend the lead to 13–4.
In the final period, McCoy recorded her third goal of the game, but the Banyans added two more goals to secure the 15–5 victory.
McCoy led Eastern Oregon with three goals on five shots, including a free-position score. Gonzales added two goals and contributed across the field with four ground balls and four caused turnovers. Goalkeeper Maddie Wicks recorded an impressive 20 saves in the net.
