LA GRANDE, Ore. – On Play4Kay Night, the No. 15 Eastern Oregon women's basketball team donned pink uniforms in support of the fight against cancer and delivered a dominant 97–51 Cascade Collegiate Conference victory over The Evergreen State College on Friday night.
Eastern Oregon set the tone immediately, forcing a shot-clock violation on Evergreen's opening possession before
Raquel Fehringer knocked down a three-pointer to open the scoring. The Mountaineers raced out to a 16–4 lead behind early triples from
Kali Kast and
Brinley Hagemeier and never looked back.
Kelsie Siegner fueled the first-quarter surge, scoring from all three levels as EOU capitalized on offensive rebounds and defensive pressure to build a commanding 30–13 advantage after one quarter.
The Mounties continued to control the pace in the second quarter, getting strong bench production and consistent perimeter shooting. Siegner and
Reigha Niemeyer added tow more three-pointers, while the team continued to convert key buckets off second-chance opportunities. Eastern Oregon's ball movement and rebounding advantage kept Evergreen on its heels, sending the Mountaineers into halftime with a 47–28 lead.
Eastern Oregon put the game out of reach in the third quarter with a strong offensive performance. Kast opened the half with the first jumper, followed by Siegner's fourth three of the night.
Makayla Torkornoo caught fire soon after, responding to TESC scoring and knocking down two back to back threes to stretch the lead. Maya Alvarado also added a pair of three-pointers off a steal and offensive rebounds as the Mounties poured in 27 points to push their lead to 34.
The Mountaineers stayed aggressive in the fourth, continuing to push the tempo and share the scoring load. Torkornoo hit two more three-pointers to cap a strong shooting night, while
Morgan Hamilton added a triple of her own. Eastern Oregon closed the contest with authority, securing the 97–51 win.
Siegner led all scorers with 25 points, adding two blocks and a steal while shooting 62.5% from the field and 5-for-7 from beyond the arc. Torkornoo followed with 14 points and five rebounds, hitting 4-of-7 from three-point range. Eastern Oregon connected on 17 three-pointers as a team, shooting nearly 50% from deep while holding TESC to just three made threes.
The Mounties shot 47.4% overall compared to Evergreen's 32.1% and dominated the glass, more than doubling the Geoducks in offensive rebounds. Eastern Oregon also showcased its depth, receiving 55 points from the bench in the conference win.
TESC was led by Sahara Soufi with 13 points on 42.9% shooting. Jenna Glenzel and Habiba Adam added 10 points each.
Eastern Oregon will look to carry the momentum forward as they host Northwest University tomorrow, February 7, in Quinn Coliseum at 3 PM.
