LA GRANDE, Ore. – For the first time in three years, the Eastern Oregon University men's basketball team will host a Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) Tournament quarterfinal game. The No. 2-seeded Mountaineers welcome No. 7 seed Corban University on Wednesday, February 25, with tipoff set for 7:00 p.m. inside Quinn Coliseum.
Eastern Oregon (16-4 CCC, 21-7 overall) enters postseason play riding the momentum of a historic regular season. The Mountaineers tied Lewis-Clark State College for the CCC regular-season title — the program's first conference crown since 2013 — and earned votes in the NAIA Top 25 Poll. Securing the No. 2 seed gives Eastern the advantage of hosting the quarterfinal matchup in front of its home crowd.
The season series between Eastern and Corban adds another layer of intrigue to Wednesday night's contest. The teams split their two regular-season meetings, each on the other's home court. Corban claimed a 66-60 victory in La Grande in the first matchup, but the Mountaineers answered emphatically with a dominant 96-56 win in Salem. With the series even, the quarterfinal showdown serves as the decisive match.
Under fifth-year head coach
Chris Kemp, Eastern Oregon has established itself as one of the most potent offensive teams in the conference. The Mountaineers lead the CCC in total points (1,714), scoring average (85.7 points per game), three-point percentage (41.4%), free-throw percentage (81%), and assists per game (16.2). Their efficient, high-powered attack has been the catalyst behind their conference-leading success.
Individually, several Mountaineers rank among the CCC's top performers.
Trent Rogers leads the conference in three-point shooting, connecting at an impressive 47.9% clip. Eamon Monaghan ranks second in free-throw percentage (83.9%) and fifth in scoring (17.4 points per game), while
Logan Orchard sits third in the CCC with 122 total assists, orchestrating the offense with consistency.
Corban (10-10 CCC, 14-4 overall) enters the tournament as the No. 7 seed and will look to counter Eastern's offensive firepower with defensive intensity. The Warriors lead the conference in steals per game (8.2), creating opportunities in transition and forcing opponents into costly turnovers. Joe Gould leads the conference in field goal percentage (57.9%) and ranks second in steals (46).
The winner of Wednesday's quarterfinal will advance to the CCC Tournament semifinals to face the winner of No. 6 seed Bushnell University and No. 3 seed Southern Oregon University. The higher remaining seed will host the semifinal contest.
