KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Eastern Oregon Men's Wrestling moved up to a tie for No. 23 in the final NAIA Top 25 Poll of the season, the national office announced Wednesday. The Mountaineers totaled 56 points to tie with Corban University after posting a 2-1 record since the last rankings.
EOU earned ranked wins over No. 14 Arizona Christian and No. 9 Embry-Riddle before falling to No. 6 Southern Oregon.
Four Mountaineers remained in the individual national rankings, with each wrestler climbing in their respective weight class.
At 133 pounds,
Braden Carson jumped three spots to No. 10 with 100 points. He recorded a pin over J. Kimura (5:00) at Embry-Riddle and earned a 5-1 decision over Southern Oregon's Z. Keinonen.
Kai Carson moved up four spots to No. 11 at 141 pounds with 94 points, highlighted by an 11-8 decision over No. 5 J. Ramirez at Arizona Christian.
At 149 pounds,
Eric Larwin rose two spots to No. 19 with 43 points. Larwin secured a 6-3 decision over R. Robles at Arizona Christian, a 20-4 technical fall against A. Esparza at Embry-Riddle, and an upset pin over No. 6 Kolton Malone at Southern Oregon.
Rounding out the individual rankings, heavyweight
Nico Rodriguez climbed to No. 12 with 86 points. Rodriguez earned a 4-1 decision over K. Cisneros at Arizona Christian and a 6-0 decision against S. Echeverria at Southern Oregon.
The Cascade Collegiate Conference was also represented in the poll by No.6 Southern Oregon, No.9 Embry-Riddle, No.12 Providence, No.19 Arizona Christian, and No.23 Corban. Also receiving votes were MSU-Northern (45), Simpson (14), Westcliff (2), and Evergreen (2).
