COLLEGE PLACE, Wash. – Eastern Oregon women's soccer continued its strong start to conference play with a dominant 5-1 road win over Walla Walla University on Sunday morning. The Mountaineers (5-2-1, 2-0-0 CCC) extended their unbeaten streak in Cascade Conference action while outshooting the Wolves by a staggering 41-4 margin.
EOU opened the scoring in the 20th minute when Karina DeYoung broke through with an unassisted goal. Just over two minutes later, Ava Henkemeyer made it 2-0 with a composed finish, assisted by Siena Salazar.
Walla Walla (0-2-0, 0-1-0 CCC) cut the deficit in half in the 40th minute as Vicky Giardina capitalized on a pass from Maria Bass, but that would be the Wolves' only goal of the match.
The Mountaineers took full control after the break. Salazar scored in the 62nd minute to make it 3-1, followed by Henkemeyer's second of the match in the 65th minute. Delaney Pink added the final goal in the 88th minute off a corner kick from Macy Reed.
Eastern Oregon's attack was relentless, registering 29 shots on goal and earning 12 corner kicks. In goal, Rylee Schei made three saves and faced just four total shots to secure her fourth win of the season. Walla Walla goalkeeper Allanah Rodriguez-Facio was kept busy throughout, making 21 saves on 26 shots on goal.
The Mountaineers will look to carry their momentum into next weekend as conference play continues at home, when they host Bushnell on Friday, Sept. 26, at 4 p.m.
