COLLEGE PLACE, Wash. – Eastern Oregon men's soccer kept its unbeaten start to the season intact with a 3-1 victory over Walla Walla University on the road Sunday afternoon. The Mountaineers (5-0-2, 2-0-0 CCC) controlled possession and outshot the Wolves 20-7 en route to their second Cascade Collegiate Conference win of the year.
EOU opened the scoring in the 29th minute when Marcos Bravo netted his second goal of the season off a pass from Anthony Macedo. Less than six minutes later, Daniel Kropf added an unassisted strike to give the Mounties a 2-0 lead.
Walla Walla (1-1-0, 1-1-0 CCC) pulled one back just before the break with a goal from Paulo Tostado, cutting the lead to 2-1 heading into halftime.
Eastern Oregon reclaimed momentum in the second half. In the 64th minute, Pablo Cardenas-Sanchez found the back of the net off an assist from Jahrie Gray to extend the lead to 3-1 and seal the result.
The Mountaineers were dominant statistically, producing 13 shots on goal and earning six corner kicks. Goalkeeper Anthony Lemus was rarely tested, facing just one shot on goal. On the other end, Walla Walla's Sebastian Vargas made eight saves in the loss.
With the win, Eastern Oregon improves to 2-0 in CCC play and remains unbeaten through seven matches overall. The Mounties return home to host Bushnell on Friday, Sept. 26, at 6:30 p.m.
