KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Eastern Oregon University volleyball has continued its dominant run, remaining the No. 1 team in the latest NAIA Top 25 Poll, announced by the national office on Wednesday.
Still undefeated at 12-0 (4-0 CCC), the Mountaineers retained the top spot after a stretch of four commanding wins. EOU was ranked first in the previous poll, having opened the season with eight-straight victories while dropping just one set in preseason play. Now settling into conference competition, the Mounties are unanimously leading the way through what promises to be a gauntlet of a schedule.
Statistically, Eastern Oregon is among the nation's elite. The team leads the NAIA in points per set (19.7), ranks third in both kills per set (14.80) and blocks per set (2.89), and is hitting a collective .247 percent while holding opponents to a .103 clip.
At the center of the Mountaineers' success is senior middle hitter
Kiauna Mack, who leads the team in kills, blocks, and total points. She also tops the nation in blocks per set with 1.90. Redshirt junior
Keira Vaughn has also been a key offensive threat, tallying 122 kills (3.13 per set).
Running the offense is two-time CCC Setter of the Week
Kate Stidham, who is averaging 7.38 assists per set. Defensively,
Jaycee Villastrigo anchors the back row with 147 total digs, while junior outside hitter
Brooke Womack heavily impacts all aspects of the game, leading the team in service aces (16), ranking second in digs (132), and third in kills (111).
Looking ahead, the Mountaineers face another challenging slate with four upcoming matches against teams appearing in this week's rankings. This weekend, they host (RV) Bushnell University and No. 3 Corban University, followed by road matchups next weekend at No. 17 Lewis-Clark State and (RV) Walla Walla University.
