COLUMBUS, Ga. – Eastern Oregon's historic postseason run came to an end Wednesday afternoon as Southern Oregon took an 8-0 victory in five innings to advance in the NAIA Softball World Series championship.
The Raiders used a balanced offensive attack and capitalized on four Mountie errors to score in each of the final four innings. Sarah Kerling led Southern Oregon at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs, while Sammie Pemberton delivered the big blow with a two-run home run in the third.
Eastern Oregon managed five hits but was held scoreless by Ayla Davies, who struck out seven. Raygun Klippert paced the Mountaineers with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate, while Hope Burke, Kelly Monaghan, and Emily Barry each added a hit.
Kylie Parsons took the loss, allowing three runs (two earned) over three innings. Relievers Taylor Brewer and Macao Jackson surrendered five additional runs, three of them earned.
The Mounties committed four defensive errors and stranded five runners, wrapping up a World Series campaign that saw them reach the final three teams standing for the first time in program history.
