COLUMBUS, Ga. – A third-inning RBI from
Emily Barry proved to be the difference as Eastern Oregon edged Reinhardt (Ga.) 1-0 in the opening round of the NAIA Softball World Series Thursday afternoon.
The Mountaineers capitalized on timely hitting to secure the shutout win. Kylie Parsons tossed a complete game, allowing just one hit while striking out seven and walking none over seven innings of work.
Eastern Oregon plated the game's only run in the bottom of the third inning when Barry drove in Hannah Tyree with a hit to center. Tyree, who led EOU with a 2-for-3 performance, sparked the offense with one of her two hits to lead off the inning.
The Mounties tallied six hits on the day, with contributions from Raygun Klippert, Madelyn Durham, and Barry. Despite leaving seven runners on base, EOU's lone run was enough behind Parsons' dominant effort in the circle.
Reinhardt was held to a single hit—a third-inning single from designated player Ansley Hight. Reinhardt's pitcher, Anslie Pettit, pitched well in defeat, allowing one earned run on six hits with no walks and three strikeouts.
Eastern Oregon advances in the winner's bracket, while Reinhardt will move to the consolation side of the NAIA Softball World Series bracket.
