No. 13 Eastern Oregon Softball Takes Both Games Against Bushnell in Eugene

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – The No. 13-ranked Eastern Oregon University softball team took both games in Saturday's doubleheader against Bushnell, winning 4-0 in Game 1 and 8-2 in Game 2 at Rich Schwab Field.

Game 1: Eastern Oregon 4, Bushnell 0

The Mountaineers shut out Bushnell in the opening game, with a stellar performance in the fourth inning that saw EOU score all four of its runs. Madelyn Durham started the rally with a triple to left center and was driven home by a sacrifice fly from Hannah Tyree. Kelly Monaghan then singled to right field, bringing in Madison Olson and Emily Barry on a throwing error by Bushnell's third baseman. Raygun Klippert added another single, scoring Monaghan to cap the four-run inning.

Durham finished the game with two hits and one run scored, while Monaghan, Klippert and Hannah Tyree recorded RBIs. Kylie Parsons (12-0) earned the win in the circle, allowing just three hits and no runs over four innings. Taylor Brewer followed with 2.1 innings of scoreless relief, while Camille Schmitz sealed the win with a save. The Mountaineers committed just one error in the game, while Bushnell had three.

Game 2: Eastern Oregon 8, Bushnell 2

Eastern Oregon's offensive barrage in the final inning of the second game propelled the Mountaineers to an 8-2 victory. After a slow start, EOU tied the game in the fourth, capitalizing on two errors by Bushnell. The Mountaineers took control in the seventh, scoring six runs on five hits and three Bushnell errors.

In Game 2, Brylin Fields, Hannah Tyree, and Monaghan each tallied RBI's to fuel the Mounties offense. Durham led the charge with a fielder's choice, scoring both Grace Spencer and Haley Tyree. Hannah Tyree followed with a ground-rule double, bringing in Durham, while Brylin Fields added a double, scoring Melanie Boatman. Monaghan and Olivia Brown both contributed with singles, driving in additional runs.

Macao Jackson (3-1) picked up the win, allowing just two hits and no earned runs in six innings. Schmitz pitched one inning of relief, completing the game for EOU. The Mountaineers committed just one error in Game 2, compared to multiple miscues by Bushnell.

The Mountaineers improve to 26-7 overall and 20-4 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play.

Eastern Oregon will look to continue their strong play next weekend when they close out regular season play against Southern Oregon at Peggy Anderson Field.
