WICHITA, Kan. – Eastern Oregon University heavyweight wrestler Nico Rodriguez capped off a strong performance at the NAIA National Championships with a fifth-place finish, securing All-American honors in the process.
After advancing to the semifinals on Friday, Rodriguez battled through the consolation bracket on Saturday, competing in two hard-fought matches. In the consolation semifinals, he fell to Braden Morgan of Friends University in a narrow 4-2 decision. Rodriguez rebounded in the fifth-place match, defeating Earnest Johnson of Life University by a 4-1 decision to solidify his spot on the podium.
Rodriguez's performance helped Eastern Oregon accumulate 20.5 team points, placing the Mountaineers 23rd overall in the national standings.
With the conclusion of the NAIA National Championships, EOU men's wrestling closes out another season of competition, highlighted by Rodriguez's All-American achievement.
