MARSHALL, Mo. – Eastern Oregon University's women's lacrosse team put up a valiant effort but fell short against Missouri Valley College, 14-10, in a non-conference matchup on Thursday.
Sophia Martinez and Claire Bever led the Mountaineers with three goals each, while Jade McCoy and Sydney Vopat added two apiece. McCoy also contributed three assists, with Martinez and Vopat each adding one.
Eastern Oregon started slow, trailing 4-2 after the first quarter but bounced back with a strong second quarter, outscoring Missouri Valley 5-2 to take a 7-6 lead into halftime. However, the Vikings responded in the second half, scoring eight goals while holding the Mountaineers to just three.
Missouri Valley's Tiyanna Thomas led all scorers with four goals, while Ava Graham added three goals and a game-high four assists.
The Mountaineers recorded 26 total shots, with 17 on goal, while Missouri Valley held a 36-26 advantage in total shots. Eastern Oregon also won 11 draw controls but struggled to maintain possession in the second half.
The Mounties will next face Whitman College at Community Stadium on April 2nd at 6:00 p.m.
