CANTON, Mo. – Eastern Oregon women's lacrosse put up a hard-fought battle but came up short against Culver-Stockton College, falling 13-8 on the road at Poulton Stadium.
The Mountaineers (0-7) stayed competitive early, trailing 5-2 after the first quarter and 8-5 at halftime. However, Culver-Stockton (6-4) put together a strong third period to limit the Mounties to single goal and extend their lead.
Sophomore Jade McCoy led the Mountaineers with a game-high four goals, while Claire Bever added three. Sophia Martinez chipped in with a goal and an assist. Eastern Oregon showed strong defensive effort, collecting 26 ground balls and forcing 15 turnovers.
Culver-Stockton's Addison Holm and Kaleigh Poe each scored a game-high six goals, while Bella Olson recorded three assists to pace the Wildcats.
Between the pipes, EOU's Alexa O'Callaghan tallied five saves, while Culver-Stockton's Jillian Vervynck stopped nine shots to anchor the Wildcats' defense.
Eastern Oregon will look to bounce back when they face University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy in St. Louis on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. in St. Louis, Missouri.
