LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Mountaineers were unfazed by weather conditions on Saturday afternoon, securing two impressive victories over Warner Pacific at Community Field. With the pair of wins, the Mounties improved to 12-3 (10-1 CCC) on the season, while the Knights fell to 5-18 (3-8 CCC).
GAME ONE
Eastern Oregon cruised to an 8-0 victory over Warner Pacific in five innings to open Saturday's doubleheader at Community Park.
The Mountaineers struck early and often, tallying runs in four consecutive innings while holding the Knights scoreless behind a dominant performance in the circle from Kylie Parsons. The right-hander tossed a complete-game shutout, allowing just three hits and striking out five in five innings to improve to 5-0 on the season.
Eastern Oregon got on the board in the second when Kelly Monaghan delivered an RBI single to score Madison Olson. The Mountaineers added two more in the third, highlighted by an RBI sacrifice fly from Madelyn Durham and a Warner Pacific error that allowed Raygun Klippert to score.
The lead continued to grow in the fourth as Haley Tyree laced a two-run single to bring home Klippert and Monaghan. Olson extended the advantage with a solo home run in the fifth, and Alexis Blankenship sealed the run-rule victory with a two-run double down the left-field line.
Olson led the offense, going 2-for-3 with a home run and an RBI, while Blankenship and Tyree each added two RBIs. Monaghan scored twice and drove in a run, helping Eastern Oregon secure its ninth conference victory.
Kili Makanani (1-7) took the loss for Warner Pacific, surrendering eight runs (six earned) on seven hits in 4.2 innings of work.
GAME TWO
Eastern Oregon's offense erupted for 14 hits in a dominant 15-2 win over Warner Pacific in game two of Saturday's doubleheader at Community Park, securing a sweep in run-rule fashion.
The Mountaineers wasted no time, plating runs in each of the first four innings to overwhelm the Knights. Natalie Dimitrov earned the win in the circle, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out two in three innings. Camille Schmitz pitched two scoreless innings in relief to close out the game.
Eastern Oregon opened with a two-run first inning as Emily Barry delivered a two-run single. After Warner Pacific responded with a solo homer in the second, Haley Tyree answered with a two-run blast of her own to push the lead to 4-1.
The Mountaineers put the game out of reach with a five-run third, highlighted by a two-run single from Haley Tyree and a two-run single up the middle by Alexis Blankenship. A six-run fourth inning sealed the victory, as Barry launched a solo home run, Madelyn Durham added a two-run double, and Hannah Tyree capped the scoring off with a RBI single.
Barry finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs, while Raygun Klippert also added three hits and two runs. Durham and Blankenship each added three RBIs in the offensive outburst.
Briana Munoz (3-9) took the loss for Warner Pacific, allowing 13 runs on 11 hits in 3.1 innings.
Eastern Oregon will look to build on its momentum tomorrow when they once again face off with Warner Pacific. Due to weather conditions, tomorrow's games will also be played at Community Field. First pitch is set for 11:00 a.m., with game two to follow at 1:00 p.m.
