LA GRANDE, Ore. – Eastern Oregon University women's lacrosse put up a strong fight in its home opener but ultimately fell 15-11 to Puget Sound on Saturday afternoon at Community Stadium.
The Mountaineers started strong, edging out a 5-4 lead after the first quarter. However, the second quarter proved to be a difference maker, with the Loggers shutting out EOU 7-0 to build an 11-5 halftime advantage.
Despite the deficit, the Mountaineers battled back in the second half, outscoring Puget Sound 6-4. Jade McCoy led the offensive effort with a team-high five goals, while Claire Bever added three. Sophia Martinez and Red Pratt also found the back of the net for EOU.
Goalkeeper Addi Bomberger tallied 10 saves to keep the Mountaineers within reach. On the other side, Puget Sound's Cat Schilli and Maggie Ott each netted five goals to pace the Loggers.
Eastern Oregon will look to rebound next Saturday when they travel to face Whitworth University in Spokane, Wash. Game time is set for 11:00 a.m.
