CLEVELAND — Following a strong performance across its fall sports programs, Eastern Oregon University sits at seventh in the NAIA Learfield Directors' Cup standings, as announced Tuesday morning by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA).
The Learfield Directors' Cup is a joint initiative between NACDA and
USA Today that recognizes overall athletic excellence. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish at NAIA Championships, with final standings determined after the completion of the spring season.
Eastern Oregon has accumulated 257 points through the fall, highlighted by standout performances in volleyball, cross country, and soccer.
The Mountaineer volleyball team led the way with 83 points after advancing to the national semifinals. Men's cross country followed with 72 points, placing seventh at the national championships, while women's cross country added 52 points with a 22nd-place finish. Men's and women's soccer each contributed 25 points after earning berths to the NAIA Opening Round.
Within the Cascade Collegiate Conference, EOU currently ranks second, trailing only the College of Idaho. The Yotes sit third nationally with 333.5 points, bolstered by strong showings from their football, women's cross country, and women's soccer programs. Southern Oregon also represents the CCC in the top 25, checking in at No. 16 with 188 points.
