HELENA, Mont. – Eastern Oregon University women's soccer picked up a pivotal 3-1 Cascade Collegiate Conference victory over Carroll College on Thursday afternoon at Nelson Stadium. The Mountaineers (8-3-1, 5-1-0 CCC) used a pair of goals from sophomore midfielder
Gracie Rainsberry and a balanced attack to secure the road win over the Saints (3-3-4, 1-3-2 CCC).
Rainsberry opened the scoring in the 38th minute with a clinical free-kick finish to the upper corner, then doubled EOU's lead in the 55th minute with another goal as she cleaned up a rebound in the box. The Mountaineers kept the pressure on, and in the 76th minute,
Holly Dorhauer added the third tally off a feed from
Jillian Brown.
Carroll broke through late with a goal in the 81st minute from Ella Kuenzli, assisted by Deanna Lord.
Eastern Oregon goalkeeper
Rylee Schei recorded seven saves on eight shots on goal to help secure the victory. The Mountaineers were outshot 16-14 overall but matched the Saints with seven shots on frame.
Rainsberry finished with two goals on two shots, while
Peyton Jacaway,
Karina DeYoung, and Dorhauer each contributed offensively. EOU also held a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks and committed 16 fouls to Carroll's seven in a physical contest that featured a yellow card on each side.
With the win, the Mountaineers remain in the top tier of the CCC standings heading into the second half of conference play.
They will continue their road trip on Saturday, Oct. 11, at noon against Rocky Mountain College.
