LA GRANDE, Ore. – The top-ranked Eastern Oregon volleyball team closed out the first half of Cascade Collegiate Conference play in dominant fashion, sweeping Warner Pacific 25-6, 25-8, 25-9 on Saturday evening in Quinn Coliseum.
The win marks the best start in program history for the Mountaineers, who extended their undefeated streak to 18-0 overall and 10-0 in CCC action. EOU remains firmly atop the conference standings, now two games ahead of No. 4 Corban University.
The Mounties were nearly unstoppable on offense, recording a season-best .486 hitting percentage with 43 total kills. Defensively, Eastern was just as sharp, holding the Knights to a -.114 clip with only eight kills and 12 total points. The Mountaineers also set a new season high with 15 service aces, and added seven total blocks in just 59 minutes of action.
17 different Mounties saw the court tonight, and several set new season and career highs in the rout. Nine players hit .400 or better, led by
Kiauna Mack's 11 kills on a .667 attack percentage.
Brooke Womack added eight kills at a .462 clip, while
Keira Vaughn was flawless with seven kills and no errors, hitting .700. Freshman
Akylah Kaino also had herself a night, notching five kills and hitting .571.
Madison Vaughn shined in the back row, finishing with a team-high six aces and seven digs, and
Kate Stidham ran the offense with 25 assists while contributing three aces of her own.
EOU will begin the second half of conference play on the road next weekend, traveling to face No. 23 Northwest University and The Evergreen State College. The Mountaineers swept both teams during the CCC opening weekend last month.
