KIRKLAND, Wash. – A clutch 87th-minute goal from
Karina DeYoung lifted Eastern Oregon University women's soccer to a 1-0 victory over Northwest University on Friday evening. The Mountaineers (13-4-1, 10-2-0 CCC) beat the Eagles on their home field for the first time since 2016.
In a tightly contested match, neither team found the back of the net until the final five minutes. After sustained second-half pressure, DeYoung broke through in the 87th minute, finishing a setup from Ava Henkemeyer for her second goal of the season and the game-winner.
EOU outshot the Eagles 9-5 overall, placing eight shots on goal to Northwest's two. Peyton Jacaway led the Mountaineers with four total shots and three on frame, while Henkemeyer,
Ashley Smith, and
Jillian Brown each added one shot on target.
Goalkeeper Rylee Schei earned the clean sheet, making two saves in 90 minutes of play. The Mounties' defense held Northwest to just one shot per half and did not concede a corner kick in the second frame.
Northwest goalkeeper Katie Snow made seven saves to keep the Eagles (9-6-3, 5-4-3 CCC) within reach until the final moments.
Eastern Oregon will now shift its focus to its final CCC game against The Evergreen State College tomorrow at the Regional Athletic Complex in Olympia, Washington, at 12:30 p.m.
