KIRKLAND, Wash. – Eastern Oregon men's soccer earned a 6-0 shutout victory over Northwest University on Friday evening. The Mountaineers (12-0-4, 9-0-2 CCC) scored twice in the first half and added four more goals in the second to remain unbeaten.
Anthony Macedo opened the scoring in the 40th minute. Just minutes later, Milton Hernandez made it 2-0 with a finish off a pass from Macedo in the 43rd.
Hernandez added a second goal in the 51st minute to open the second half, followed by scores from JJ Gallardo (52'), Jesus Alvarez (55') and Diego Vergara-Zuber (77') to complete the offensive onslaught.
EOU dominated all phases of the match, outshooting the Eagles 23-1 and putting 15 shots on goal. Hernandez led the way with two goals on two shots, while Macedo contributed a goal and an assist. Gallardo, Alvarez, and Vergara-Zuber each tallied goals on their lone shot attempts. Bailey Hopkins, Northwest's goalkeeper, finished with nine saves.
The Mounties also held a 9-1 edge in corner kicks and limited Northwest to just one shot attempt in 90 minutes. Eastern Oregon committed only three fouls in a clean defensive effort, while Northwest was whistled for seven and issued two yellow cards in the second half.
Eastern Oregon now looks ahead to its final conference matchup against The Evergreen State College at 3 p.m. at the Regional Athletic Complex in Olympia, Washington.
