CALDWELL, Idaho – Eastern Oregon men's soccer remained unbeaten in Cascade Collegiate Conference play with a 2-1 road victory over College of Idaho on Friday night at Simplot Stadium. The Mountaineers (7-0-3, 4-0-1 CCC) used goals in both halves and a stout defensive effort to edge the Yotes (2-3-1, 2-3-0 CCC) in a hard-fought contest.
EOU got on the board first in the 20th minute when forward Henry Lopez capitalized on a loose ball and netted his second goal of the season to put the Mounties up 1-0. College of Idaho responded in the 34th minute, leveling the match at 1-1 through Evan Dickinson, who scored off a setup from Pierre Fabre.
The Mounties regained the lead early in the second half as Austin Turner found the back of the net to give EOU a 2-1 edge they would not relinquish.
Despite being outshot 14-13, College of Idaho threatened down the stretch with eight second-half attempts, but EOU goalkeeper Anthony Lemus came up with several key saves. Lemus finished the match with four stops.
Turner and Lopez led the offensive effort with a goal apiece, while Anthony Macedo and Marcos Bravo combined for four shots on target. EOU also earned six corner kicks compared to just four for the Yotes.
The match was physical throughout, featuring six yellow cards — four against Eastern Oregon and two for the Yotes.
With the win, Eastern Oregon remains near the top of the CCC standings and will continue its road swing next week in Montana against Carroll College at 7:30 p.m. MT.
