LA GRANDE, Ore. – Eastern Oregon men's soccer delivered a dominant performance on Senior Day, cruising to a 4-0 shutout victory over the University of Providence on Friday afternoon at Community Stadium. With the win, the Mountaineers improved to 11-0-4 overall and 8-0-2 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play, remaining the lone unbeaten team in the CCC.
EOU wasted little time getting on the scoreboard. In the 11th minute, Jesus Alvarez opened the scoring with a composed finish off a long-ball feed from
Tawanda Rice. Just 12 minutes later,
Manuel Rodriguez doubled the lead with his first goal of the season, converting a free kick in the 23rd minute.
The Mountaineers continued to press in the second half and were rewarded when Marcos Bravo struck twice in a span of seven minutes. His first goal came in the 62nd minute off a setup from
Anthony Macedo, and he followed it up in the 68th minute with his ninth goal of the season, assisted by
Henry Lopez.
Bravo led the offensive onslaught with eight shots—four on target—while Macedo and Pablo Cardenas-Sanchez added five and three shots, respectively. EOU outshot the Argos 34-1 overall and held an 11-1 edge in shots on goal.
Goalkeepers Anthony Lemus and
Kole Anderson combined for the clean sheet, with Anderson making the lone save of the match after entering in the 69th minute. Providence (3-10-2, 3-7-1 CCC) used two goalkeepers and finished with seven total saves.
Eastern Oregon also celebrated its 12 seniors after the game for their dedication and contributions to the program.
With the win, EOU extended its unbeaten streak to 15 matches and will close out its regular season on the road next weekend against Northwest University.
