BILLINGS, Mont. – Eastern Oregon men's soccer extended its unbeaten run in Cascade Collegiate Conference play with a 1-1 road draw against Rocky Mountain College on Saturday afternoon at Wendy's Field. The Mountaineers (8-0-4, 5-0-2 CCC) rallied from a goal down in the second half to secure a point against the Battlin' Bears (3-1-6, 2-1-4 CCC).
After a scoreless first half, Rocky Mountain opened the scoring in the 67th minute on a goal by Jeremiah Espana, assisted by David Russell. Eastern Oregon responded just five minutes later when
Jahrie Gray converted a penalty kick in the 72nd minute to level the match at 1-1.
EOU held a slight edge in total shots (12-11) and matched Rocky in shots on goal with four apiece. Gray led the Mountaineers with two shots on target, while
Anthony Macedo,
Marcos Bravo, and
Anthony Lemus contributed to a consistent offensive push in the second half.
In goal, Lemus made three saves over 90 minutes for the Mountaineers, including two in the first half. Macedo, Bravo, and
Pablo Cardenas-Sanchez also recorded shot attempts during the Mounties' late-game pressure.
The contest was physical throughout, with four yellow cards issued—one to EOU's
Hernan Dominguez and three to Rocky Mountain. The teams combined for 20 total fouls.
With the result, Eastern Oregon remains the one unbeaten team in the CCC and sits atop the conference standings heading into the final stretch of regular season play.
The Mountaineers return home to host Oregon Tech on Friday, Oct. 17, at 6:30 p.m.
