SALEM, Ore. – Eastern Oregon women's basketball was unable to hold off a fourth-quarter surge by Corban University (10-11, 8-7 CCC), falling 78-67 on Friday evening at the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.
Eastern Oregon started strong, shooting 53.3% in the first quarter but trailed 24-18 after 10 minutes. A strong second quarter saw the Mountaineers take a brief lead before heading into halftime down 40-37.
The Mountaineers outscored Corban 18-13 in the third quarter to enter the final period with a slim 55-53 advantage. However, Corban controlled the fourth quarter, outscoring EOU 25-12 and shooting 66.7% from the field to secure the win.
Corban finished the game shooting 50% from the floor and 85.7% from the free-throw line. Eastern Oregon was efficient from the stripe at 87.5% but struggled in the final frame, shooting just 25% in the fourth quarter.
Brie Holecek led the Mountaineers with a game-high 27 points, hitting five three-pointers while also contributing seven assists and five rebounds. Kelsie Siegner added 10 points and five rebounds, while Kaiea Waiwaiole and Maggie Smith chipped in nine and six points, respectively.
Corban was paced by Jenna Albrecht, who scored 17 points, including a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line. Lizzy Bennett followed with 16 points, and Madison Hodnett posted 15 points and eight rebounds.
Eastern Oregon (13-7, 9-6 CCC) looks to rebound tomorrow when they travel to Eugene to face Bushnell. Tipoff is set for 3:00 p.m.
