SALEM, Ore. – Eastern Oregon men's basketball pulled out a hard-fought 87-82 overtime victory over Corban on Friday night at C.E. Jeffers Sports Center, led by a combined 56 points from the trio of Garrett Hawkes, Malachi Afework, and Jaden Hansen.
It was a back-and-forth battle with the Warriors (12-9, 10-5 CCC), featuring eight lead changes and five ties throughout the contest. Corban forced overtime by tying the game at 74 apiece with late free throws, but Eastern Oregon took control in the extra period, outscoring the Warriors 13-8.
Hawkes paced EOU with 21 points, knocking down four three-pointers and adding six rebounds. Afework contributed 20 points, including a 9-of-10 effort from the free-throw line, while Hansen added 15 points and three assists. TJ Doman filled the stat sheet with 10 points, nine rebounds, and four assists.
Corban was led by Spivey Word and RJ Veliz, who each scored 19 points. Luc Krystkowiak posted a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. The Warriors held a 46-38 advantage in points in the paint but struggled from three-point range, shooting just 25% (6-of-24).
Eastern Oregon shot 52.8% from the field and 40% from beyond the arc, while Corban managed 45.7% shooting overall. The Mountaineers also capitalized at the free-throw line, converting 23-of-31 attempts compared to Corban's 12-of-18.
EOU returns to action tomorrow when they travel to Eugene to face the Bushnell Beacons, with tip-off set for 5:00 p.m. PT.
