LA GRANDE, Ore.— The Eastern Oregon Mountaineers women's basketball team overcame a sluggish first quarter to defeat the Bushnell Beacons 71-61 on Friday evening in Cascade Collegiate Conference play.
Eastern Oregon shook off an 11-point deficit in the opening period with a decisive 23-point second quarter to take control.
Bushnell jumped out to a 19-10 lead after the first quarter, capitalizing on Eastern Oregon's 8.3% shooting from the field in the period. However, the Mounties found their rhythm in the second quarter, shooting nearly 59% while holding the Beacons to just 28%. A 12-0 run fueled by Brie Holecek and Kaiea Waiwaiole allowed EOU to take a 33-29 halftime lead.
The Mountaineers extended their lead in the third quarter, outscoring the Beacons 19-13, and maintained their advantage through the fourth eventually taking the ten point victory.
