LA GRANDE, Ore. — The Mountaineers delivered a commanding performance on Wednesday night, defeating Bushnell University 85-62 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play at Quinn Coliseum. In a true team effort, all 12 Mountaineers who took the court scored.
Garrett Hawkes powered the Mountaineers with a double-double, finishing with 24 points on 8-of-16 shooting and grabbing 10 rebounds. Trent Rogers added 19 points off the bench, shooting 8-for-13 from the field, while Porter Abrams contributed 10 points off the bench, going a perfect 5-for-5. Eastern Oregon (8-5, 3-3 CCC) shot 48.5% from the field and 36.8% from three-point range in the victory.
The Mountaineers dominated the first half, building a 35-22 lead behind their defense and efficient scoring. They extended their advantage in the second half, leading by as many as 33 points while outscoring Bushnell 50-40 after the break.
Bushnell (5-8, 1-6 CCC) struggled to find consistency offensively, shooting just 31.2% from the floor and 19.2% from beyond the arc. Kaleb Burnett led the Beacons with 15 points, while Squeeky Johnson added 14. Despite pulling down 49 rebounds to Eastern Oregon's 47, Bushnell couldn't capitalize on second-chance opportunities.
Eastern Oregon's bench played a pivotal role, outscoring Bushnell's reserves 38-26. The Mountaineers also controlled the paint, scoring 42 points inside compared to Bushnell's 30.
The Mountaineers will look to extend their winning streak on Saturday as they host Corban University in another CCC showdown. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. at Quinn Coliseum.
