MOSCOW, Idaho — The Eastern Oregon indoor track and field team opened the Lauren McCluskey Memorial Open & Multi with a strong performance at the Kibbie Dome on Friday, highlighted by Elizabeth Grandle's record-breaking effort in the women's pentathlon.

Grandle claimed first place in the pentathlon, amassing 3,626 points to set a new program record and secure the top mark in the NAIA this season. The finish breaks a five year old record of 3484, set by Paige Dodd in 2019. Grandle's performance was bolstered by a high jump of 1.68 meters, a mark that also met the NAIA "A" standard.

Teammate Adrienne Washington also shined in her pentathlon debut, finishing second with 3,471 points. Her score ranks as the sixth-best in the NAIA this season and third all-time in EOU history. Like Grandle, Washington cleared 1.68 meters in the high jump to achieve an "A" standard.

In the men's heptathlon, Justin Krabbenhoft leads the field after day one with 3,016 points. He will look to close out the competition strong on Saturday with the 60-meter hurdles and pole vault events, beginning at 9 a.m.

In the field events, Mark Church delivered a notable performance in the men's weight throw, finishing fourth with a mark of 17.83 meters. His throw meets the NAIA "B" standard, adding another highlight to Eastern Oregon's impressive day.

Day two of the Lauren McCluskey Memorial Open & Multi continues tomorrow, with more opportunities for Mountaineers athletes to make their mark.
