LA GRANDE, Ore. – Eastern Oregon University women's basketball delivered a commanding performance on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Multnomah Lions 91-63 in Cascade Collegiate Conference action at Quinn Coliseum.
The Mountaineers utilized an explosive second quarter to secure their eighth conference victory of the season, outscoring the Lions 31-15 in that period. The Mounties shot an efficient 56.9% from the field and held the Lions to 35.7%.
Brie Holecek delivered a strong performance, recording a triple-double with 15 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists. Haylee Johnson came off the bench to score 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting and also grabbed seven rebounds. Kelsie Siegner contributed 17 points and five rebounds, showcasing her shooting range with three triples.
Eastern Oregon's offense was also complemented by their bench, which contributed 50 points compared to Multnomah's one. The Mounties also dominated the boards, pulling down 48 rebounds to the Lions' 23.
EOU's success stemmed from their effectiveness in the paint, outscoring Multnomah 36-24, and their fast-break attack, which generated 10 points. The Mountaineers' defense also forced 13 turnovers, converting those into 11 points. The Mounties shot 87.5% from the free-throw line, compared to Multnomah's 71.4%.
The Mountaineers look to build on this weekend's success as they head to face the No. 4 Southern Oregon University Raiders on January 24 at 5:30 p.m.
