KIRKLAND, Wash. – The Eastern Oregon men's basketball team (11-4, 6-3 CCC) delivered a dominant performance on Saturday night, defeating Northwest University (2-13, 1-8 CCC) 86-57 at the Kristi Brodin Pavilion.
Garrett Hawkes led the Mountaineers with an impressive 25 points on 10-of-16 shooting, including three three-pointers, while also grabbing four rebounds. TJ Doman contributed a well-rounded 16 points, five assists, and five rebounds, and Brennen Newsom added 12 points and seven boards. Eastern Oregon was sharp offensively, shooting 53.3% from the field and 50.0% from three-point range.
The Mountaineers controlled the game from the outset, building a 44-33 lead by halftime and outscoring the Eagles 42-24 in the second half. Their defense was stifling, forcing 15 turnovers and scoring 21 points off those opportunities.
Northwest struggled to keep pace, shooting just 36.8% from the field and 25.0% from beyond the arc. Shane McGaughey-Fick and Caleb Whalen each scored 10 points for the Eagles, who also got nine points from Manuel Zapater.
Eastern Oregon dominated the paint with a 32-28 scoring edge and outperformed Northwest in second-chance points, 11-0. Their bench added 23 points, highlighted by Trent Rogers, who scored 14 points on 4-for-7 three-point shooting.
The Mountaineers, now winners of five straight, will next travel to Caldwell to face the College of Idaho on Tuesday.
