Eastern Oregon Falls to Oregon Tech in Conference Opener

LA GRANDE, Ore.  — Eastern Oregon women's basketball fell short in their Cascade Collegiate Conference opener, dropping a 69-50 decision to the Oregon Tech Owls.

The Owls leaned on a dominant performance from senior guard Gabbie Gascon, who poured in a game-high 28 points while adding eight rebounds and four steals. The Owls controlled the glass, out-rebounding EOU 56-42 and capitalized with 15 second-chance points. Gascon's four three-pointers and 10-of-14 free-throw shooting anchored an efficient offensive outing, while Kennedy Tull added 11 points.

Eastern Oregon faced an uphill battle early, trailing 13-7 after the first quarter. The Mounties mounted a brief comeback in the second quarter, outscoring the Owls 21-20, but Oregon Tech responded with a decisive 36-22 second half to pull away.

Junior forward Kelsie Siegner led the Mountaineers with a double-double, contributing 14 points and 12 rebounds. Senior guard Brie Holecek added 12 points and seven boards, while Haylee Johnson provided a spark off the bench with 10 points.
