LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon Mountaineers women's basketball team fell to the College of Idaho Yotes, 69-62, in a Cascade Collegiate Conference clash on Saturday afternoon at Quinn Coliseum.
The Mounties opened the game with a 12-8 advantage after the first quarter, fueled by solid defense and early three-pointers. Both teams found their rhythm in the second quarter, with EOU outscoring the Yotes 21-20 and taking a narrow 33-28 halftime lead.
Eastern Oregon maintained control in the third quarter, building its largest lead of eight points (42-34) midway through the period. The Yotes responded with a 22-point outburst, closing the gap and setting up a tightly contested final frame.
In the fourth quarter, Eastern Oregon struggled offensively, shooting just 22.2% from the floor. The Yotes capitalized on turnovers and executed down the stretch, outscoring EOU 19-10 to seal the victory. Free throws were critical, with the College of Idaho converting six in the final minutes to maintain their edge.
Key Performers:
College of Idaho: Kylie Waltermeyer led the Yotes with a team-high 19 points, adding five assists and three steals. Brooke Beresford also contributed 19 points and four rebounds, shooting 60% from the field. Taryn Riley chipped in 12 points, including key free throws in the final minutes.
Eastern Oregon:
Brie Holecek paced the Mountaineers with a game-high 20 points, knocking down three three-pointers.
Kelsie Siegner added 13 points and seven rebounds, while
Kaiea Waiwaiole tallied nine points and six boards.
The Mountaineers will look to bounce back in their next CCC matchup against Lewis-Clark State College on Friday, December 20th, in Lewiston, with tip-off set for 5 p.m.
