Bench Sparks Eastern Oregon Women’s Basketball to Dominant 90-45 Win Over Simpson

CALDWELL, Idaho – The Mountaineers cruised to a commanding 90-45 win over Simpson University in non-conference action at the J.A. Albertson Activities Center, improving to 4-1 on the season behind a balanced offensive effort and stifling defense.

Eastern Oregon saw 11 players score, with the bench contributing 44 points. The Mountaineers shot 43.4% from the field, including 13 three-pointers, while limiting the Red Hawks to 29.3% shooting. EOU also forced 21 turnovers, converting them into 20 points.

Kelsie Siegner led the Mountaineers with 12 points, adding four assists and three rebounds. Haylee Johnson and Brie Holecek each contributed 11 points, with Holecek also grabbing four rebounds and dishing out three assists. Brinley Hagemeier added nine points, including a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc, and pulled down eight rebounds.

Eastern Oregon's defense held Simpson to just four points in the fourth quarter, cementing the victory with a dominant 30-16 third quarter. Katie Cushman paced the Red Hawks with 14 points, while Tessa Kinney added 11. Cerina Nguyen pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds and scored nine points for Simpson.

The Mountaineers controlled the boards, outrebounding Simpson 46-35, and outscored the Red Hawks 24-4 in second-chance points.

Eastern Oregon now turns its attention to Cascade Collegiate Conference play, set to square off against the Owls of Oregon Tech on December 6 at Quinn Coliseum.
