CALDWELL, Idaho — Eastern Oregon men's basketball surged to an 85-72 victory over Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University on Friday afternoon, fueled by a dominant second-half performance.
The Mountaineers trailed 32-29 at halftime before erupting for 56 points in the final period, shooting a blistering 66.7% from the field. Eastern Oregon's offense came alive with contributions across the board, led by Trent Rogers' 21 points and TJ Doman's efficient 19-point outing on 9-of-14 shooting. Garrett Hawkes was a perfect 3-for-3 from distance, adding 13 points and a team-high four assists, while Rogers showcased poise at the free-throw line, hitting all nine attempts.
Brennen Newsom controlled the glass for Eastern Oregon with a game-high seven rebounds.
Defensively, the Mountaineers capitalized on 20 Embry-Riddle turnovers, converting them into 37 points. Their relentless pressure and ability to dominate inside led to a 50-16 advantage in points in the paint.
Noah Gifft paced the Eagles (2-4) with 17 points, including four three-pointers, while Peter Dress chipped in 11. Despite shooting 42.3% from beyond the arc, Embry-Riddle struggled to match Eastern Oregon's second-half intensity.
With the win, Eastern Oregon improves to 3-0 on the season and will look to maintain its unbeaten start in their next matchup tomorrow afternoon against Carroll College at 2:00 p.m. MT. This marks the Mountaineers' second meeting with the Saints this season, having won the first contest 100-94 on November 8.
