LA GRANDE, Ore. – A second-half own goal proved decisive as Eastern Oregon defeated Carroll College 1-0 in a closely contested Cascade Collegiate Conference matchup at Community Stadium on Saturday October 12th.
The lone goal of the game came in the 57th minute when Carroll inadvertently directed the ball into their own net during an EOU corner kick, giving the Mounties the lead. Despite multiple chances on both sides, the teams were unable to break through in regulation.
EOU and Carroll each finished with nine shots, but the Mountaineers had five shots on goal compared to the Saints' three. Eastern Oregon goalkeeper Madeline Barker made three saves to secure the clean sheet, while Carroll's Maria Ackerman stopped four shots on the day.
Offensively, the Mountaineers were led by Kapri McMillan and Brooke Snyder, who both registered multiple attempts on goal. Carroll's Zoie Koci and Rachel McAllister were the top shot-takers for the Fighting Saints, but they were unable to find the back of the net.
It was a defensive battle for both teams but a defense anchored Barker allowed the Mounties to extend their win streak to four.
